A green oasis deep in Gazcue. A house full of light and tranquility, integrated with surrounding environment. A house for cat and nature lovers. Balconies and vegetation, birdsong and flowers. Local art, ceiling fans (no a/c) and vegan friendly.
I am British, a landscape architect, environmentalist, development worker and yoga teacher. I have lived here 29 years and have traveled most corners of the the country. I love the DR and to advise on alternative places to go and things to do or see.

The space
My small house has three stories and is one of a row of five town houses. It is airy and cool. Your room is on the second floor, along with a second bedroom, bathroom and balcony. Towels, clean bed linen twice a week, shampoo, and soap etc. are provided. No-one else uses this floor. Dominican coffee or herbal tea, available in the morning. I am happy to negotiate meals, breakfast or traditional Dominican lunch (meatless). I share the house with various rescued cats, and volunteer with a cat rescue group.

Guest access
You are welcome to access the downstairs area, living room, dining area and patios to socialise and relax. We can talk about availability of the kitchen. The second floor and balcony are for your use, they are unlikely to be shared with another guest.

Other things to note
Note that the room is on the first floor (here they say second floor) and access is by stairs.

Josefa Perdomo 201 is situated in the Primavera (Spring) zone of Gazcue, adjacent to the Colonial zone. It was developed as a garden city, with wide, tree lined streets and colonial style houses, a number of which still exist, if you are interested in architecture. Many larger trees were destroyed in the 1998 Hurricane Georges, but the Primavera zone still has street trees that offer shade to walkers and beautify the area. I love Gazcue because it is possible to reach so many places on foot and it offers a glimpse of a disappearing way of life. It is traditionally the home of intellectuals and artists, and is in walking distance of the Plaza de la Cultura, home of the National theater, National library, the Museum of Modern Art and four other museums. In addition to the Plaza de Cultura, it is easy to walk to the Hostos park, the Iberamericano park and the Malacon sea front to escape the traffic and breathe fresh air. The neigbourhood has a good selection of traditional and alternative eating places, including vegetarian options. There are gyms, yoga studios, pharmacies and two supermarkets all within walking distance from the house and a variety of fruit, vegetable and coconut water stalls in the street.

During your stay
I am vegan, newly retired and teach yoga various times a week. Personally, I love to cook, travel and learn about other cultures. I am happy to share information and cultural tips on the DR, especially on tourism, ecotourism, and things to do in Santo Domingo. I can recommend local eateries, depending on your food tastes.
