About this listing

Humble but * fun, funky* location! Note: Due to limited height of The Shire, it is only suited for folks under 5 feet, 9 inches tall (1.75 m). Value/comfort near Johns Hopkins Medical, Harbor East, in Upper Fells Point. Walk everywhere.

Help new arrivals find housing.

NOTE: Shower times are limited. 9-11 a.m., or 7-9 p.m.

NOTE (2): Fll out your bio, complete your verifications and provide a photo clearly showing your face before contacting me; a clear photo is needed for host security.

The space

Spartan, Peace Corps type space -- but you do have a bed, desk, fabulous Ikea Poang reading chair, storage shelves, and a half-bath: toilet and sink.

IMPORTANT NOTE: The shower, in my separate master suite on the 2nd floor, is available 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 7-9 p.m. Max of 1 shower per day.

PLS READ: Please do not ask for changes in the shower time. If you are attending a convention and are out all day, the Shire is not appropriate unless you can make other shower arrangements.

Please see my other listing, the Vivaldi Suite, if you need multiple showers or showers outside of the stated times.

The Shire contains an A/C & heating unit that makes a mechanical sound (it will be on when hot in summer and cold in winter), so it is best for those who are sound sleepers.

The Shire is not suitable for anyone over 5 feet, 9 inches (1.75 meters) or about 170 pounds (80 kilograms). Please mention your height when booking -- tall people also frighten my shy dog.

Amenities available (please ask): Ironing board, iron, makeup mirror, wedge pillow.

Guest access

Kitchen fridge and microwave, dining room, spectacular roof deck, shower. You can *definitely* use the dining room table as your office, set up a laptop at one end and work happily with strong wifi and some tea, hot chocolate or coffee.

Interaction with guests

Flexible interaction with guests! I work in a home office, so I have some deadlines to meet, but I can take breaks and act as a "concierge" to be helpful to you as you plan your day.

Other things to note

Consult the online Charm City Homestay site for tons of information on everything from the best crab cakes in town to theater and music options!

Not suitable for those with cat allergies or smokers.

No guests will be admitted without a clear, head and shoulders photograph on their profile.

After you book, please consult your confirmation email to read my House Manual and send me the Magic Phrase.

I didn't quite know what to expect from the Shire especially descending the narrow stairs that descended into the little suite. Truly, it was very charming. It had all the essentials one would need (bed, toilet, sink), and a little extra (lounge chair, writing table, toiletry supplies, etc.) The ceilings are low! The height restriction is no joke, but I didn't find it at all uncomfortable (I'm 5'8") and actually quite liked the wolf's den sort of feel. The real charm of the home though was Jeanette. She was super accommodating and helpful for city and restaurant suggestions. She is also an absolutely excellent cook! I had the absolute privilege to sup with her several nights and enjoyed wonderful conversation on the little roof deck that affords a 360 degree view. I would absolutely recommend for anyone looking to save some dollars and doesn't mind a more homey feel.

An enjoyable stay. I was in Baltimore for an Argentine tango festival and staying here at Jeanette's place worked out really well for me. Even with my coming and going at unusual hours, when I met Jeanette in the morning she was very kind and welcoming. It is nice to stay with someone who enjoys hosting. I really felt this from her and would love to stay again whenever I am back in the area. Comfortable and simple, the room and house had everything I needed. And the pets were sweet companions.

Jeannette is an excellent hosted at her unique airbnb. She is also deaf friendly as she communicated through text and/or speak on siri on the iphone's note app. I definitely recommend other deaf guests would feel comfortable to sleep there if they plan to visit Baltimore. :) Again, thank you so much for everything and i always felt appreciate every time i came airbnb! :)

This is a great place to start out in the city - Jeannette is VERY helpful in helping you settle in, find an apartment, and figure out which part of the city is the best fit for you!

The Shire was quaint, private, and quiet. I appreciated this as I was busy daily at a conference held at the convention center. Furthermore, I really appreciated Jeannette's thoughtful attention to detail, especially her concern for the environment and love of animals. Finally, the price point was very affordable as compared to the big name hotels attached to the convention center. Besides, I'd rather give monetary support to the little people rather than big corporate. Thank you Jeannette for opening your home as an AirBnB. You are a hospitality Goddess!!!

This was my second time staying at the Shire. It was a great value and Jeanette was an accommodating host. It was in a central location, quiet, and within walking distance to many places.
