Located just 10kms from Yangshuo in the riverside farming village of Pubutang, this community tourism project is the perfect place to experience the tranquility of rural China in comfortable, modern accommodations.

As the name "Pubutang" suggests (瀑布塘 – “Waterfall Pond") – we're a short hike from Yangshuo’s best kept secret – an amazing 80m waterfall barely seen before by outside eyes.

Join us for a responsible approach to tourism in one of China's most beautiful destinations.

The space
We have renovated the old village school into a relaxed cafe with two adjoining modern private rooms, taking care to maintain the cultural heritage of this significant building through close consultation with the local community and government.

The first room has two double beds and the second room has one large Queen bed, both with comfortable IKEA mattresses and private bathroom. Guests are welcome to use our kitchen for private use and all shared spaces in the Cafe.

We are located on the banks of the Li River and are the first tourism business in this quiet, friendly farming village that time has forgotten. Expect peace and tranquility and an authentic rural Chinese experience!

The cafe features a fully stocked bar, dining areas, comfy upstairs beanbag 'chill out' space and kitchen where we prepare a range of local and western dishes using the best seasonal produce from the village fields and surrounding areas.

We pride ourselves on our relationship with our community and welcome you to participate in our regular English language classes we make available for the local children on weekends.

A further renovation of the adjacent farmhouse is planned to begin late 2018.

Guest access
All areas of the Cafe, village and riverside are open for visitors to use. We are also happy for you to use the Cafe or outside areas for your private use if you would like to host an event or function.

Overlooking the Li River, guests are welcome to swim in and relax by the river.

The must-see waterfall is located a short hike along the river and up into the mountains. It will require a moderate level of fitness, and take around 45 mins to reach. Suitable footwear (ie not flip flops/thongs) will be required. The path to the waterfall is not marked and passes through private property, meaning you will need to book a waterfall hike (half day) with us ahead of your stay.

Waterfall hikes will be led by Jane, involving an informative tour learning about the diverse produce and local culture and hearing plenty of her stories about growing up in the area.

"It's nice to be important, but its more important to be nice!" Since first passing through Yangshuo as a young traveler in 2003, I've felt a great connection to this amazing place, its friendly faces and world-class cuisine. For 15 years it has become my spiritual home, a place I always enjoy bringing my family and friends back to. I am so happy to help my good friend, local girl Monkey Jane Zeng to open the Pubutang Cafe and Guesthouse, a very special place that I hope you will enjoy as much as I do.
