The Rockland Talbot House is a beautiful example of a 2nd Empire Mansard Victorian mansion that has been renovated with today’s travel needs while preserving the architectural details of a bygone era. Enjoy the expansive common areas including the Grand Parlor, Sun-room, Library and our fully stocked guest pantry area featuring homemade pie and ice cream! We are located just 2.5 blocks from Rockland’s downtown restaurants, museums, stores, ferry and harbor in a quiet residential neighborhood.

The space
Your private guest room suite is located on the 2nd floor and is 1 of 6 guestrooms available for rent in this beautiful Victorian mansion. This guest room is beautifully decorated in rich tones of navy and royal blues with a featured paisley print and a sweet crystal chandelier that gives it a modern take on the French Country look. The room features a carved wooden queen bed and offers a desk, a sitting area and a large closet. The room is located on the 2nd floor with 10 foot ceilings. The two over-sized windows face east and south allowing lots of natural light. The custom window treatments include black-out panels. The private attached bath offers a vanity area, ample storage, a heated floor, fluffy towels, Gilchrist & Soames bath products (replenished daily) and a custom tiled 2-person walk-in shower with multiple shower heads.

We provide complimentary high-speed internet, whisper quiet in-room heat and air-conditioning that you control, a flat screen TV (smart TV), a working fireplace, lots of modern electrical outlets, bedside reading lights and privacy locks.

Your nightly rate also includes daily housekeeping service; access to a 24 hour guest pantry area with microwave, refrigerator, freezer and ice; morning juice and coffee service, daily homemade breakfast and homemade pie and ice cream; off-street parking and as much assistance as you would like to help you plan your stay including daily itineraries, reservation service for dinner, boat trips and other activities.
We value our guests’ safety. Each guest will be given their own keys to their individual guest suite and a personal remote access code to the outside doors.

The Rockland Talbot House, listed on the National Historic Registry, was one of the largest private homes built in the City of Rockland at about 6,600 square feet. Edward Hopper, considered one of the greatest American 20th century painters, used this home as a subject for his 1926 painting "Talbot's House".

Guest access
Guests at the Rockland Talbot House are welcome to make themselves at home in the many common areas of this beautifully restored B&B inn. Areas include the: Grand Parlor (common television, jigsaw puzzle, game area and comfy sitting area in front of the fireplace); Guest Pantry area; Sunroom; Dining Room; Side Porch and 2nd floor Library.

The Guest Pantry area has a refrigerator, microwave, dishes, glasses and coffee maker for guest use. It is stocked with an assortment of teas, coffee, sodas, ice and water. It is available to guests 24 hours a day and the best part is you don’t have to do the dishes! This is also where you can find our homemade pie and ice cream to enjoy!

The Rockland Talbot House offers private, off-street parking on the property for all of our guests.

Location

Rockland, Maine, United States

Our vacation rental property is located in the quiet, residential historic district of Rockland. The homes on the street are some of the largest built in the city. The Rockland Talbot House is walking distance to Rockland's downtown shops, restaurants, museums and harbor but away from the traffic and noise of busy Route 1.

Rockland is a very walk-able city and most of our guests enjoy being able to walk to dinner and the shops. Rockland, the geographic center of mid-coast Maine, is located halfway between Portland and Bar Harbor making it a great location for convenient day trips to explore the nearby islands, rugged coast, quaint coastal towns and fabulous parks like Acadia.

Rockland has been named one of the "Coolest Small Towns in the US" by Budget Traveler; a top Adventure town in Maine by National Geographic Traveler; one of the Best Small Foodie Towns in the US and has evolved into one of the Maine's "must see" art centers. Probably what we like most about Rockland is that it is very “authentic”. It has a working harbor; the shops and restaurants downtown serve the locals and visitors alike; people are real and are friendly; it has a blue-collar authenticity and is definitely not pretentious. Maine is mostly small businesses, small artisans and small farms – the fabric and the success of our community is working together, and Rockland exemplifies this. There is so much to do in the area, both inside and outside, so you can keep as busy as you would like regardless of the weather! We can provide you with sample menus of restaurants, maps, and activity brochures. We will also help you as much as you would like with your daily plans.
