The house was built in the 1930's and stands in the shadow of the world renowned Loughcrew Cairns
( This site is in the heart of Irelands Ancient East)
This collection of stone age passage tombs were built between 3500 and 3300 BC. The area was a significant site throughout early Irish history, owing to its height above the surrounding land.
Oldcastle is just 50 miles from Dublin. It has a quiet town centre with some nice pubs etc. It hosts the Le Cheile Arts and Music festival on the 1st weekend of August each year. The nearby town of Virginia
(a "plantation town" ) called after Elizebeth 1 of England) is home to the Ramor theatre which hosts work from Irish and International playwrites, along with music and vintage cinema.
This house gives a flavour of authentic traditional Irish country life, and until 1995 was a functioning farm.
