About this listing

Come to a home away from home! This wonderful and spacious penthouse apartment is centrally located, just off the interstate leading into downtown Baltimore. It's close to nightlife, public transport, family-friendly activities, and the airport. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers.

According to several of my guests:
"The place itself is absolutely beautiful and hip."
"Definitely a great budget place to stay for someone looking to explore the city."

The space

Recently renovated in 2011, this penthouse apartment boasts 12.5 foot ceilings and a beautiful red accent wall in the living/dining room. The available room has access to a balcony (which also serves as the private entrance) and a full bathroom just outside its door. The pictures can't do it justice!

Guest access

Guests have access to the private bedroom (including private access through the balcony), the adjacent bathroom, the kitchen, and the living/dining room area. Guests also have access to cookware, diningware, and cutlery, as well as complimentary tea.

Interaction with guests

I'm very sociable and willing to help! However, my busy schedule keeps me out of the house much of the time. If you need anything at all, feel free to call or text me; I am very responsive!

The neighborhood

The Reservoir Hill neighborhood is wonderfully diverse and boasts quick and easy access to downtown, Towson, Johns Hopkins, and Druid Hill Park. Just a block away is the Whitelock Community Farm, which sells fresh produce grown on its grounds every Saturday.

Getting around

Bus access is available just outside the house. The neighborhood is also centrally located, making it very easy to catch an Uber or Lyft to your destination. It's also a ten minute drive to Penn Station, in case you need to get out of town. The location works well for cars, also; it is less than three minutes away from the highway, ten minutes from downtown, and just a few miles from several key locations in the Baltimore area. Street parking is available.

Other things to note

Street parking is available, but typically not very difficult to acquire. I have rarely had to walk more than a half city block, even in extreme conditions.

Khalid was great, he made sure I checked in, knew about the area and since I was new to Baltimore, gave me all sorts of tips and advice on what to do! He is a lovely person and I felt right at home. The apartment is on the 3rd floor of stairs, and has a private back entrance. The apartment is clean and kept in good repair. Overall a great experience!

It can be said: "Those who offer their homes to others can be driven to do so either for the need of money or because they sincerely wish to serve and know others in this human family. Airbnb is certainly a business model that portends to focus on fostering unique human relationships by hosts and guests. However, whenever the equation between host and guest is bolstered by money then the potential is often differed for the sake of material needs." "In my seven day interactions with my host (Khalid) I was convinced that his motive was money and mine was comfort. In the transaction we both lost the opportunity for forging unique human relationships." I want to report that Khalid as described by other guests before myself is light-hearted, jovial and supportive in a general sense. However, what Khalid offered was moreso a "college dorm roommate" stay and not a real BNB experience. He claimed to "go the extra mile in small-yet-significant ways" and I found that he did not satisfy that claim during my stay. The conditions I wish to report for the benefit of future guests that book with Khalid are as follows: 1. The description of a "short stack penthouse in lovely Reservoir Hill" is deceptive. The two-bedroom flat (top floor) is located in an area bordering Druid Hill, Mondawan Mall and urban decay. The neighborhoods are experiencing a rennaissance with renovated diplated or abandoned buildings (like his)-- but, crime and safety issues are common. 2. The bed photographed is actually a King mattress laid upon two twin box springs which cause a "V" depression and making sleeping difficult much less the back ache I experienced. 3. The rear "private entrance" on the balcony is actually six flights of stairs. The access gate faces the alley next to an abandoned building and is not well lighted. Moreover, the numbers on the lock are faded and make someone easy prey for assault from the alley. The interior staircase is only three flights and easier for a guest, but Khalid apparently does not want to share his front door keys. 4.The bedroom door is warped at top which prevents proper closing and locking. It looks like this is intentional because a screw jabs the door. Khalid claims maintence was to repair but this did not jive with my own encounter with maintence. 5.The kitchen has roach investation and Khalid did not house cleaning in the seven days. He did empty the overflowing trash can on day five in the kitchen. He constantly leaves dirty dishes and does not clean counter tops, dining table, or rug under dining table. He has a dishwasher and doesn't use it. He ask guests to not wear shoes, but floors are not clean (ex. He left clumps of mud from his own shoes on floor until I left). The apartment also had hornet/wasp investation which he claimed he was surprised to see and again would get maintenance to exterminate. However, not in the seven...

Khalid was an amazing host! I stayed here on a business trip and it was a perfect location to the Universities I was visiting. Right around the corner from Johns Hopkins, MICA, University of Baltimore, and downtown area. There is ample street parking and is in a fairly quiet area though there are a handful of great restaurants within a 5 minute drive. Khalid went over and beyond for a host and was extremely hospitable.

I am very accommodating, looking to go the extra mile in small-yet-significant ways. I want my space to feel like a home away from home!
