Welcome to Sun Wind Beach Kalpitiya- an authentic local family run business! Our comfortable, traditionally designed cabanas are set just ten metres from the shore of gorgeous Kalpitiya Lagoon .

Free breakfast, local transport to key kite surfing spot (boat) and use of beach huts included.

We are the first local kite surfers in Kalpitiya and offer kiting lessons, dolphin watching, island hopping and kiting tours to Vella and Mannar Islands. Experience Kalpitiya through local eyes!

The space
The comfortable cabana is a traditional design from locally sourced materials.

It comes with an ensuite ( including a shell shower), double bed, mosquito net, fan, chill out verandah and hammock. There are unique artworks on the walls by a local artist.

The cabana has been individually designed incorporating traditional building techniques and locally sourced materials. The cabana has been constructed out of palmyra wood and designed with unique panel detailing and coconut thatching. Natural and sustainable!

All structures on site have been made by our family out of natural materials.

Our garden of tranquility is full of tropical trees, plants and installation artworks made out of found and natural materials.

Guests have access to our on-site restaurant serving delicious seafood, vegetable dishes and fresh juices. We have 2 chillout areas- one at the resteraunt and a seperate elevated chillout amongst the palm trees with glimpses of the lagoon-perfect for yoga! Keeping the natural vibe, our bean bags are made out of rice sacks and stuffed with coconut coir.

We have a small boat permanently anchored to the lagoon shore where you can have a drink and watch the most amazing sunsets. Guests also have exclusive access to beach huts on Kalpitiya Lagoon and Vella Island- key kite surfing spots.

Kalpitiya is a place where you can get away from it all and recharge from your busy lifestyles. You won't find bustling nightclubs or bars.

What you will find is a local area that is underdeveloped and idyllic, comprising coconut groves, lagoons, small villages, prawn farms, and salt pans. Wild donkeys still roam the dirt roads.

Nights are quiet where the silence of the lagoon is only occasionally disturbed by the sound of fish splashing. The skies are peppered with stars and the lagoon is full of plankton that glows blue at certain times of the year. The lagoon has a number of islands scattered around to explore, and the sunsets are simply magical.

The town is around 7 mins tuk tuk ride away.

Hi Machans ( friends)! My name is Susantha Fernando and I am Kalpitiya's first local kite surfer. I was born in Kalpitiya to a humble fishing family and have spent my entire life here. I now have a guesthouse, kite school and offer kite rental and kite trips to Vella and Mannar Islands. I am happily married with a small son whom I adore. I am a skilled boatsman and have an intimate knowledge of the local area from the most beautiful beaches, to far away islands, lagoons and best places to kite surf. Having my own guest house and being able to show visitors my local area has been a dream! My business is one of the very few guesthouses in Kalpitiya that is wholly owned by a local village family. Every building and structure has been made using traditional techniques and out of natural materials by members of my family including my father, mother, brothers, cousins and even grandma!! It is true sustainable tourism. Thank you for sharing this dream with me and helping my community. I look forward to showing you Kalpitiya and am positive that once you experience it here, you will want to return back again and again :)
