Nestled in approximately 5 hectares of native kanuka woodland on the side of Little Mt Iron, with stunning views overlooking the Upper Clutha Basin. Our unique alpine cottage is super secluded, yet only 7mins drive from Wanaka town centre.

The space
Our super comfortable and somewhat quirky cottage is oozing with character, styled in an eclectic mix of modern rustic furniture and decor. It is located in the native kanuka woodland up on the eastern facing side of Little Mt Iron with stunning views over the Upper Clutha Basin.

The cottage has a generous, well equipped kitchen, open plan living / dining area with a cozy lounge and classic schist fire place. It's warm in the winter and cool in the summer with three sets of French doors open onto the verandah wrapping around the northern and eastern sides of the house.

The master bedroom has a super comfortable king bed and there is a queen bed on the mezzanine above the living area. There is also a dinky bunk room with 2 single beds - perfect for kids!

This is a unique place which we feel lucky to have been able to call our home for the last few years. Due to a growing family, we have made the hard decision to upsize our home, but we are super excited to now be able to share our gorgeous cottage with others. It seems everyone who sets foot in this place tends to fall in love with it!

Guest access
Our guests will have full access to our 5 hectare hillside property which you are welcome to explore. We encourage you to pack a picnic and a bottle of bubbles and take a hike up our private track to the top of our property where you can enjoy panoramic views from the top of Little Mt Iron.

Guests will have full access to Wifi, TV (with Freeview and Netflix) and stereo (with Spotify), Weber BBQ, washing machine, dryer and other appliances. There is a well equipped kitchen and we will keep the pantry stocked with basic items (cooking oil, vinegar, soy sauce, salt & pepper, some herbs, breakfast condiments, coffee, tea etc).

Other things to note
We have a STRICT NO SMOKING policy in our cottage. Any smoking shall be outside only and extra care shall be taken to ensure ash and butts are disposed of appropriately. There is a high risk of fire in the kanuka woodland on Mt Iron.

The gravel driveway up to the cottage is quite steep and involves a hairpin corner. Two wheel drive vehicles can make it up the driveway but should be driven confidently. We suggest you do not book this house if you are a nervous driver in a two wheel drive vehicle.

It is important to note that the queen bed is on the mezzanine floor, which has a ladder access, so it is not suitable for small children or elderly.

The cottage is an old crib so there are number of house 'quirks' (to do with water pressure etc) which we will explain to our guests in a comprehensive house instruction manual, but we don't imagine this will affect the quality of your stay.

We welcome well behaved dogs, so long as they are safe with chooks and stay off the furniture and beds. There are lots of rabbits on the property which dogs are welcome to help us 'control' but be aware that there are no fences close to the house.

We encourage our guests to explore the property, but beware that there are dangerous areas of the property where fall hazards exist off natural bluffs. Children should be supervised at all times.

Location

Albert Town, Otago, New Zealand

Wanaka and the stunning Otago region has so much to offer by way of adventure, natural beauty and luxury experiences.

Our neighbourhood on the north eastern side of Mt Iron, is far enough from the hustle and bustle, yet still close enough to be convenient to the lake and town centre. Big properties out this side of town mean there is plenty of space and privacy for everyone. From the house, it's only a 10 minute walk to Hikuwai Reserve, which connects to the walking and mountain bike track network along the Clutha River. Albert Town village (with the most delicious patisserie in all of the Clutha Basin - Pembroke Patisserie) is a 20 minute walk away. The start of the public Mt Iron walking track network is about a 15 minute walk away.

During your stay
Our guests can check themselves in but if we are around, one of us will likely stop by once you have settled in to introduce ourselves and make sure you have everything you need to enjoy your stay. We live in a house nearby and will be on call should you need any assistance throughout your stay.

Depending on the length of your stay, we may need to pop up to tend to the chooks every couple of days, but we will let you know when we plan to do this.
