Calling all Santa Cruz day-trippers! If you want to enjoy all the coast & mountains have to offer - beaches, hiking, biking, dining and shopping - but crave a quieter and less populated place to rest in the evening - this place is for you.

The space
Spacious with lots of light, this 1-bedroom apartment is located in a quiet residential area in Scotts Valley. Grocery shopping, coffee shops, a library, movies, tennis courts, and dining are all a traffic-free 5-minutes away by car or 15-20 minute walking distance.

This 2nd floor granny apartment is attached to our main home but has a private entrance and cozy outdoor deck area. The apartment is single-occupancy only.

The apartment is newly carpeted (Oct. 2014) and features:
-- a large living room with digital cable TV
-- free reliable wifi
-- a fully-equipped kitchen (stove, oven, microwave, pantry, refrigerator, coffee maker, appliances, dishes, pots and pans etc.)
-- a large bedroom with walk-in closet and computer desk
-- full size sofa in living room
-- a master bath with two sinks and a bath/shower combo
-- a cute private outdoor porch/deck with a gas BBQ, bistro table and chaise for reading or napping - a great place to unwind, dine alfresco and plan your next day-trip and watch the sun go down.
-- fully equipped kitchen with pots/pans, dishes, glasses, mixing bowls, etc.

You will have a designated parking spot in the driveway with easy access to the apartment via the backyard area of the main home - up a short set of stairs. (Note that access to the apartment is via an outdoor stairway).

Henry Cowell State Park, with fabulous hiking, is only 10 minutes away in Felton, and if you continue on Highway 9 - you can visit another great state park - Big Basin, with its famous redwood trees and waterfalls.

An easy 15-minute drive on Highway 17 will take you to the popular Beach Boardwalk area, the UCSC campus or downtown Santa Cruz, with its many brew pubs, coffee shops and eclectic shopping. A bit further are Wilder Ranch, Pescadero, and Half Moon Bay and San Francisco to the North; Capitola, Aptos, Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur to the South. Silicon Valley (Los, Gatos San Jose, Palo Alto) is 30 to 40 minutes away- so if you need to do some business while still being able to hit the beach nights and weekends - this apartment is an ideal launch point.

If you have any special requests to make your stay more comfortable - please let us know.

There is an adjacent smaller apartment that would be a great add-on rental if you are two couples or if you have additional group members that require their own lodging.

Guest access
You will have your own private deck area with BBQ.

Scotts Valley, California, United States

Scotts Valley is a quiet town far enough away to leave behind the hub-bub of traffic and congestion of more populated areas - but with great freeway access to launch daytrips to the North or South. We have 3 full size grocery markets, drug stores, coffee shops (Peets, Starbucks and Surf City Roasters), a renowned skatepark and a fabulous seasonal farmers market on Saturday mornings. Though there is not really much "night life" in our fair city - there is a fabulous calendar of music at Don Quixotes in Felton (less than 10 min away) You can find the calendar with your favorite web search tool. Felton also has the Roaring Camp steam train, great hiking and a zip line park as well.

Our neighborhood is quiet and well-kept, with very little thru traffic and our home has several fruit trees and vegetable patches to enjoy seasonally.

I am a Silicon Valley marketing professional who takes any opportunity to unchain from the desk and hit the great outdoors - which could include anything from picking wild berries in my neighborhood to backpacking the John Muir Trail in the Sierras. I love indoor pursuits just as much - cooking, baking, sewing and decorating with vintage fabrics. I am spending a bit more time away from the home so may not always be onsite, but my son Nick who lives in the home is also very willing to help out if I am unreachable for any reason.

During your stay
My college-age son and I live in the adjoining home full-time, but keep busy and are often away from our home. We live a quiet lifestyle and will give lots of privacy during your stay.
