Stocking your space with must-have amenities
Highlights
Guests will expect essential amenities like soap, toilet paper, linens, and towels
Consider the unique needs of business travelers, families, and/or guests with accessibility needs
Safety features like smoke alarms, fire extinguishers, and first-aid kits put everyone’s mind at ease
When it comes to choosing a place to stay, guests have endless options. Stand out from the crowd by thoughtfully outfitting your space and adding popular amenities to your listing description. According to a consumer survey commissioned by Airbnb, the majority of travelers say amenities are a top priority for a great trip—even more important than things like shopping and dining. And most place functionality above thoughtfulness, so while a welcome beverage is a really nice touch, glasses are more of a must-have.
Stock up on the essentials
Guests will expect to find toilet paper, hand and body soap, towels, and linens, so make sure your space is stocked with all of these essential amenities. Airbnb recommends offering a minimum of:
- One towel per guest
- One pillow per guest
- Linens for each guest bed
Items guests search for
When searching listings, many guests apply filters to display only properties that include the amenities they’re looking for, so be sure to check off all the amenities you can provide in your listing. Commonly searched amenities include: a kitchen, wifi, washer/dryer, heater/air conditioning, parking, hair dryer, and swimming pool.
Keep safety in mind
Taking basic safety precautions can help protect your guests and your home. A smoke and carbon monoxide alarm and fire extinguisher near the kitchen cooktop will help put everyone’s mind at ease. Remember to check smoke alarm batteries every six months and include local emergency numbers in your house manual and on a quick reference card for guests. Consider also keeping a first-aid kit somewhere in your space.
Highlight accessibility
Guests with accessibility needs look for very specific amenities. A step-free entryway, wider doorways and hallways (at least 32 inches wide), and an accessible-height bed are just some of the features that will make your home a good fit. Listings with accessibility features are prioritized in Airbnb search, so it’s a good idea to highlight them in your amenities and photos.
Prepare for business travelers
Business travelers look for items that will make their work trip more convenient and comfortable, so things like superfast wifi, a laptop-friendly workspace, and an iron and ironing board will be top of mind. If you want your space to appear when guests search using the “Work trip” filter, you’ll also need to install smoke alarms, and have at least one high rating from a business traveler.
Showcase kid-friendly features
Opening your space to families? Traveling with young children comes with unique challenges, and hosts have an opportunity to lighten the load in every sense. Providing a crib and high chair means parents don’t have to lug bulky items long distance. Toys, games, and a TV are appreciated by guests of all ages.
Add a few thoughtful touches
One of the best ways to boost your reviews is by delighting guests with a few extra amenities, like breakfast foods or a nice coffee setup. From refreshments to pool toys, there are endless ways to take your space to the next level. Not sure what your guests will appreciate? Get the full guest experience by staying in your space for a night. You’ll be sure to identify an item or two that could be added to ensure your guests have a wonderful stay.
