Studio in the Ville

SarahRating, 5 stars1 month ago
This studio was a delight to arrive to after a long day of driving and Barbs had thoughtfully provided a little treat for our arrival. The studio was beautifully presented and the bed was the most comfortable I’ve slept in! Communication with Barbs was easy and friendly, it was only a shame we couldn’t have spent more time there including to explore the area. If I return to Helensville I would definitely stay here and I have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation and great host to others.

Little Bush House - luxurious retreat

AmandaRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The Little Bush House was my 10-year-old son’s and my first stay upon arrival to NZ. It was the perfect place to recover from a long flight. A beautiful and comfortable space with stunning views through wall to ceiling windows was ideal for hunkering down through several days of rain. The gardens were fantastic for popping outside in between showers. Great proximity to the Titirangi town center, beautiful coastline, the Waitakere Range, and just a short hop from Auckland. Sarah and Guy are warm, lovely, generous people who put their hearts into hosting. I hope to return and highly recommend!

AWAY Treehouse & Forest SPA

DyannaRating, 5 stars4 months ago
We absolutely loved Sanna & Murray's Treehouse. It is located on the east side of Waiheke Island completely isolated in a beautiful forest. You feel like you have left the world behind. The outdoor soaking tub and Sanna's massages and facials were the cherry on the top (highly recommend booking massages with her as part of the experience!). Man O War winery is nearby about 10 min by car if you want to go to a restaurant. The treehouse was equipped with everything you might need, simple, tasteful and perfect for relaxing and communing with the birds and nature. Loved spending time reading on the deck amongst the trees and looking at the stars at night from the bed. Great way to unwind and connect with nature and your partner. The nearest store is about 30 minutes away so recommend buying any groceries you might want before getting to the treehouse. I can see why they got New Zealand Best Unique Stay Award.

Warren and Suzanne were amazing hosts, going above and beyond to make our stay very comfortable. The observatory experience was lovely and fascinating. We will definitely be going back. The room was very comfortable and had everything we needed. We absolutely loved all the little touches and the extra effort to make the place feel warm and inviting. Highly recommend it.

The Best of Both Worlds

ShungRating, 5 stars3 days ago
Wonderful place! My partner and I felt right at home the moment we stepped in. Has everything you need. Titirangi is lovely spot too. And as described in the listing, it's a 30min drive in a directions to the airport, CBD, and the west coast beaches which we absolutely loved. Pete is super friendly and responsive too! Would 100% recommend this place.

Your guide to Parakai

All About Parakai

Nestled around a bend of the mighty Kaipara River, the village of Parakai is close to the city of Auckland in the midst of northern New Zealand’s beautiful natural landscapes. The community lies in fertile farmland only a few miles from the coast,

where amid green open spaces, you can soak in the hot therapeutic waters of the Kaipātiki Reserve’s geothermal pools or explore the Gibbs Farm sculpture garden featuring work by renowned artists from around the world. You can also go boating or kayaking on the river and hit the trails of the Woodhill Mountain Bike Park. Within a short drive, the wine-growing region between Parakai and Auckland opens its cellar doors for tastings, while scenic gourmet restaurants serve seasonal dishes with suggested wine pairings.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Parakai

The northern part of New Zealand’s North Island enjoys a mild subtropical climate, with temperatures rarely dipping towards freezing, even in winter (June through August). The cooler months can be wet, so pack a waterproof jacket for any downpours. December to March are the hottest summer months in the Southern Hemisphere, but the weather is often pleasant for outdoor activities throughout fall and spring.

Top things to do in Parakai

Geothermal Hot Pools

New Zealand is rich in geothermal activity, and swimming in the hot mineral pools at Parakai Springs has been popular for centuries. The local Māori tribe knew of the benefits of soaking in the waters, and in the 1920s and 30s, the area became a spa destination. You’ll find a large outdoor hot pool, an indoor pool (heated to 104 degrees Fahrenheit), and several waterslides. You can bring a picnic or hire a gas BBQ on the extensive grounds or grab a bite to eat at the cafe.

Kaipara Coast Sculpture Gardens

Located less than 20 minutes from the village, this peaceful spot hosts a roster of more than 40 rotating sculptures, shining a spotlight on some of the country’s leading artists. The one-hour sculpture trail weaves its way past fruit trees and through native forest, offering views of Kaipara Harbour.

Omeru Scenic Reserve

Just off the Kaipara Coast Highway, less than a half-hour’s drive away, Omeru Pā Scenic Reserve features a lush lawned space with picnic benches, where you can refuel after following the towering kauri trees to fern-framed Omeru Falls. The pool beneath this secluded cascade is a popular place for swimming on summer days.
