Vintage hilltop villa near Etruscan ruins
The space
When a traditional country house meets modern Italian design, the result is the dreamy Tenuta di Paternostro equestrian estate. Surrounded by 30 hectars of picturesque Latium Maremma countryside and views in all directions, this eclectic vacation rental is stocked with everything from antique fireplaces and 1950s furniture to a 3,60 mt fossil table. Your holiday at this luxury estate includes the services of a butler who is also a special cook, a maid for morning housekeeping and breakfast service, and a concierge. Take in the vistas sweeping from Vetralla and the Monti Cimini to Viterbo from the pool or a seat on the pergolas, patios and gardens. The Paternostro property also has 250 trees producing bio extra virgin olive oil, a permaculture flower and vegetables garden from which most products are sourced for meals. While the sun sets like in an African Safari you can admire the passing by of the 9 Tenuta Thoroughbread horses that graze free, enjoy a glass of wine, put a favourite album on the iPod docking station or settle in by the fireplace or TV.
The house itself is inspired by the varied tastes of its owner—think exotic finds like Persian carpets and Mexican drums, paired with vintage fireplace surrounds and mod pieces from the 1950s. Yet it adds up to a warm, welcoming vibe, from the adjoining cozy living rooms featuring a fireplace, a dining space where the giant Kauri fossil table from New Zealand and a chandelier from South Africa make a unique setting, to a piano and lots of instruments. A sleek, fully equipped kitchen is a minimalist counterpoint to the other rooms in appearance, but a central island makes it just as inviting.
At Tenuta di Paternostro, there are private lounge areas, including a honeymoon-worthy suite with its own fireplace, and several open directly to the garden. Like the main living areas, the suites combine country charm with design accent pieces.The territory where Tenuta di Paternostro is located – is called Tuscia and it takes its name from the Etruscan civilization that once inhabited it. It is a land dotted by primary Etruscan and Roman archeological sites as well as medieval villages, historical gardens, Renaissance palazzos and thriving nature -volcanic lakes, ancient forests, thermal baths (with all facilities).
