This is one of the few remaining traditional Japanese-style buildings in Hiroshima City, built 75 years ago, shortly after the war, in the Shoin-zukuri architectural style.It is a quiet environment just a step away from the main street, and there is a small Japanese-style garden where you can relax. There are also items that can only be found in the Mai House, such as a vase that partially melted from the heat of the Hiroshima atomic bomb on August 6, 1945, and photographs from about 100 years ago. The fixtures and glass panes date back more than 70 years, and the atmosphere of a traditional Japanese house is particularly evident in features such as the two gardens, the alcove, and the study. On sunny days, enjoy morning coffee on the large wooden deck. In the cold winter, warm up with a wood stove, and make and eat a delicious meal yourself. Play your favorite music, and read surrounded by books lining the walls. Take a walk to Gero Station while catching a glimpse of life in Gero. Fishing at sea, picking azaleas, bamboo shoots, and wild potatoes in the mountains, and eating them yourself. Long stays are recommended. Based at Shimonada Cabin, it is about an hour's drive to Matsuyama City. 2.5 hours to Shimanto River. 3 hours to Shikoku Karst. Shopping can be done in Iyo City or Nagahama Town, or you can buy from local fishmongers and greengrocers and cook for yourself. Of course, you can also eat at a nearby restaurant if you book.
