The owner of the house is Ueno, a Japanese female artist/painter. Her paintings from the 1980s are still preserved in the house, and Japanese architecture and art complement each other in every corner of the house, which we still admire today. Nakamachi, where the Machiya "Fang no Kado" is located, is coincidentally the site of the Heian-kyo "Dai Gokuden". A thousand years ago, the Emperor sat on the high throne of the Great Hall to receive courtiers and foreign envoys. Today, the Daikoku Hall is the only remaining site, and the surrounding area has evolved into a commercial and residential area. There is a bus stop 1 minute walk from the house and JR/subway station 10 minutes walk, with easy access to all attractions in Kyoto.
