What an absolute amazing place to stay! Fantastic place to absolutely wind down and just take it all in. Nice short drive from Huntsville and Halliburton where we explored a few places. Felt better than home as it was so quiet, my home is not 🤣 Would absolutely love to go again in the future.

Beach Point Cottage Co - Hampton House

I had booked the Hamptons to propose to my gf and it was absolutely perfect. The cottage and scenery was beautiful. It was spotless inside and had everything you could ever think of, from cutlery to various coffee machines. The area itself is very private. Madison was super helpful, accommodating and answered promptly each time. All in all, we had a great experience and would book here again in the future given the chance.

Cheerful 3 bedroom cottage with fireplace.

George's listing was perfect for a getaway from the city. My husband wanted to look for a place last minute and thankfully the listing popped up and they were able to accept us last min. It was perfeeectt for us. Exactly what we wanted. Somewhere peaceful, somewhere cozy, somewhere quiet and secluded so we can tan with as little tan lines as possible ;) and a calm lake for my dog to swim in. This was probably one of the most organized stays we have been in. I loved that the vacuum was accessible, the cleaning supplies were organized and easy to find. I would 1000% return and am planning to return.

Your guide to Kennisis Lake

All About Kennisis Lake

Located in Haliburton Highlands in southeastern Central Ontario, the 4,100-acre Kennisis Lake invites visitors to explore its rocky, irregular shoreline in canoes or kayaks, sample freshly caught perch and bass dishes at local restaurants, and cast a line or two of their own for trout and walleye. The local wildlife isn’t confined to the water — the forests that envelop the lake are home to bears and moose.

In summer, the lake’s deep blue waters are an ideal spot to spend sunny days power boating, water skiing, and pontooning, while winter trips are rewarded with snowmobile paths and miles of skiing and snowshoeing trails to the south. A trip west to nearby Dorset Lookout Tower will give you the lay of the land — the observation deck on the former fire lookout tower sits 465 feet high above Lake of Bays.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Kennisis Lake

The best time to book a Kennisis Lake cottage rental is in June or July. The temperature is moderate and the days are sunny, providing the perfect conditions for scenic hikes or days out on the water in a kayak or on a paddleboard. The area is a popular summer destination, with swimming courses and outdoor activities on offer during peak season.

The forests surrounding the lake are best explored during fall, when the maple and aspen in Haliburton Forest are at their most resplendent. Winter sports aficionados head to the region once the leaves have fallen, as a number of ski resorts and cross-country skiing trails are within easy reach of the lake.

Top things to do in Kennisis Lake

Fishing

Kennisis Lake is a haven for fishing enthusiasts, from experienced anglers to beginners. During extremely cold weather, ice fishers drill rectangular holes into the lake’s frozen surface and catch Haliburton Gold lake trout by sending hooks or spears into the icy depths.

Norah’s Island

At 22 acres, Norah’s Island is the largest island in Kennisis Lake. According to the final wishes of its previous owner, the island was donated to a land trust to protect it from development. It features native trees, some bat species, and rare varieties of orchids. Visitors can travel here by boat for tranquil picnics among the ferns and honeysuckle.

Boating

While there are plenty of opportunities to admire the lake’s placid waters from the rocky shore, boats are the most popular way to enjoy them. The south shore marina offers supplies, licenses, lessons, and boat rentals if you’re keen to skipper your own vessel. Alternatively, you can leave the controls to a professional. Keep a lookout for deer and waterfowl appearing between the trees.
