KAIWA NO SATO This old house is an indigo mansion built in the first year of the Bunsei era (1804) during the heyday of indigo. The main house and the sleeping area (a barn where indigo was stored) have been demolished due to aging, but the historic living room and garden have been preserved to allow guests to experience a little bit of that time, and it is used as a farmhouse inn. In the old days, "Indigofera" grew on the fertile land of the Yoshino River basin in Tokushima Prefecture, bringing great wealth to Tokushima Prefecture (Awa Province). Ancient documents on indigo, including cultural properties, are also available for viewing. Enjoy the charm of that era and Indigofera. ＝＝＝＝ Feel free to pick and eat seasonal fruits and vegetables from the adjacent fields. * Please enjoy as many figs as you like in summer and autumn. Because the railroad is near, you will hear the sound of the train driving. Paid parking is not available onsite, so pay parking is available nearby. The interior is the main accommodation room on the second floor, and the first floor is a large free space (with a sofa bed) that can be used freely, not only for couples and friends, but also from families with small children to business travelers. With that in mind, I took care of the empty Nishimura Residence. - Nishimura-Tei is originally a traditional Japanese house which has been here in Nara-machi town over 100 years, where my grandmother used to live in. My mother and I decided to renovate this house to preserve and pass down the virtue of good old days in Japan to the next generation as well as to show it to you.

I don’t even know where to begin, my stay at Arubaya was truly something special. Hana is one of the sweetest, warmest, funniest, and most thoughtful people I’ve ever met. From the moment I arrived (very late and very flustered), she welcomed me like I was one of her own grandchildren visiting for vacation. Her husband, although more on the quiet side, gave total “sweet grandpa” energy calm, gentle, and always caring. Together, they made me feel safe, cared for, and completely at home. Hana and her husband genuinely care about their guests and take such amazing care of their home. I loved our evening chats, the laughter, and the quiet little moments. I truly wish I could’ve stayed longer. Leaving was hard. But one thing’s for sure: if (or rather, when) I come back to Japan, I’m coming straight back to Arubaya to see Hana, Gigi (that’s what Hana called her honey lol!), and that magical window view. Thank you both, from the bottom of my heart. You made my first solo trip unforgettable!

The time we spent at Jinn’s House was a highlight of our family trip to Japan. The house is perfectly appointed in a modern, but also traditional, Japanese style, with gorgeous details and a tranquil sculpture garden. The cypress tub is a dream. Jinn is the consummate host. He helped us with restaurant reservations and even arranged for an incredible private dinner with a local chef that was worthy of a Michelin star. We also took advantage of Jinn’s photography skills to shoot some family photos before departing. Five stars are not enough!!

We had a wonderful stay in Meg’s house. It’s a large comfortable traditional Japanese house. The beds are super comfy and has lovely linen. Megs mum , who is very friendly popped in after a couple of days to change our towels. Thankyou! Location is only a short walk to the onsens, restaurants, station and convenience stores. Meg is very kind and friendly she met us at the station when we first arrived. She showed us around the accommodation and recommended best places to eat and visit. We highly recommend Meg’s place thankyou.

Within walking distance of Uji station, it is in a quiet and calm place along the river, and I was very soothed from the moment I arrived😌 The interior was also tasteful, and it was a really ideal space to relax with friends! Before check-in, I happened to meet the owner and asked about the insects I saw nearby (they seem to be called "Tobikera"), and it seems that they are unique to the rich natural areas that only occur for a period of time in spring and autumn. When we stayed, we had no concerns, and the room was very clean and comfortable.My friend, who doesn't like insects, was also able to relax👌 The communication was polite and the response was quick, and I felt the high level of hospitality. It is a lovely inn that I would love to visit again in a different season!
