The space
We bought the Old LaSalle Bed and Breakfast in late September of 2017. It had sat dormant for about a year, and we are slowly bringing it back as a Guest House. The Sion Bass Guest House has 6 "Hotel Suite" style rooms, each with a luxury Spa Style attached bathroom. The building is equipped with smart locks, where you use a door code to check yourself in, and come and go as you wish. There is not a permanent staff on property, however, Mike and his family live a few blocks away.

The home was built by Union Colonel Sion Bass, who commanded the Indiana 30th in the Civil War. The home is decked out with a Civil War theme, with pictures of Sion and his men. This is in the heart of downtown Fort Wayne, with Starbucks a Frisbee throw away, restaurants, and activity in all directions.

The Foster Suite is right inside the front door. If you are the lightest of sleepers, and require no disturbances, please select another Suite in the Guest House. Other guests will have 24/7 access the front door that is right outside this suite. We are also on a major Blvd in downtown Fort Wayne. The Foster Suite is in the front of the Guest House, close to the street.

Guest access
Enjoy the common sitting/main gathering room on the main floor. Free parking is provided on site right behind the building.

Other things to note
This is a shared guest house. Think of a small hotel. There is a "lobby" downstairs, with Suites throughout the home.

The Guest House is on one of downtown's busiest streets. The Foster Suite is at the front of the Guest House. There is Traffic noise and street lights. If you are a very light sleeper, please book a suite to the back of the home. The McCulloch and Lawton Suites are very quiet.

The Foster Suite is adjacent to the front door. The main door smart lock does beep when accessed. Should other guests come and go at odd hours, the lock will make beeps as the code is entered. There will also be general noise from entering and exiting the home as other guests come and go.

Neighborhood highlights

The West Central Neighborhood encompasses all of downtown west of Calhoun Street, the heart of West Central is its urban residential area, the development of which began as early as the 1830s. Because of the historic and architectural significance of this area, the West Central Neighborhood was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1984 and was designated as a Local Historic District as early as 1985.

The West Central Neighborhood was named the “Best Old House Neighborhood” in Indiana in 2010 by “This Old House Magazine.” The north side of the Neighborhood, along Berry and Wayne streets and Washington Boulevard, was where many of the City’s most prominent families built large, stylish homes.

The area opens into downtown, with restaurants, shops, and countless ways to get lost in the city. The Historic Sion Bass House straddles the edge of the neighborhood and downtown. You can be out the door and on an adventure in minutes.

I am an old house nerd who lives in downtown Fort Wayne with my wife and 3 wonderful children. I bought my first historic home at 24, and never looked back. Over the last 20+ years, I have been blessed to have the opportunity to take disheveled, ignored 100 year old treasures, and restore them to their former glory. I love every bit of it. Please come and enjoy these treasures with us!

During your stay

Our family lives just blocks away, and loves all downtown has to offer. We stop in once a day around Noon I am always available via the AirBnB App, and can be on property in minutes.

We do not have a full time staff on property. While Mike stops in almost daily, there should be no expectation that there will be someone on property at any given time. We use a smart lock system with codes, where you will check yourself in and be able to come and go as it works for your schedule.
