What you'll do

Come visit our "micro cider" works. We will go for a short walk to explore some of the old and new orchards and productive gardens nearby. We will observe street planted fruit trees - planted as part of our campaign to create fruit trees in every street and depending how keen people are (and how nice the weather is) we can also look at fruit trees planted in parks and in local allotments. Back at the cider base we will have the chance for people to make their own fresh apple juice in a small hand press (a favourite with children) and also taste some of our Clyde cider (for over 18s).

Learn more about John

John

I've been planting fruit trees in schools, community gardens parks and open spaces, and 10 years ago, founded of Scottish Heritage Fruit trees, a specialist supplier of fruit trees. We also make a Glasgow cider - called Clyde Cider, which uses fruit from peoples gardens across the city. I am one of Scotland's experts / enthusiasts on Fruit growing and Orchards, and the big idea is to plant fruit trees in parks, streets and gardens throughout Scotland. We have planted dozens of orchards, and planted many fruit trees throughout Glasgow and across Scotland. I work as a consultant to many private customers, establishing and maintaining orchards from the small to large. The cider is done in a communal way, and we'd be delighted to show you round and let you taste the bounty of Glasgow's finest apples.

Where you'll be

We will meet at the Historic Sixty Steps which is a historic landmark right by where we make Clydecider. From there we can take a short walk to look at fruit trees planted nearby. The experience does vary with the season and weather, and how keen people are to walk!. Back at the Cider house, we can make apple juice, take a look at the cider making process and taste our delicious Clyde cider. Stockists for the cider are nearby.
