What you'll do

Learn how to make a bonsai at an atelier

I will teach you how to make a boncra—a bonsai craft—and we'll use papers, ribbons, wires, and scissors. Bonsai is a Japanese art form that started eight centuries ago in Japan. It features a miniature-size tree grown in a container and it generally lasts 10 to 100 years. It can also be done on a palm. During this experience, you will come to my flower studio to learn about bonsai and create a craft at my atelier. We'll pause for lunch and enjoy a Japanese bento. Then we'll get back to work finishing our bonsai and when we're done, we'll have some photo time with Japanese tea. At the end, you'll take home your boncra and it will be a special gift for your home.

I create bonsai crafted and handmade bonsai. I've been a flower artist in Japan since 1974 and I've managed my flower studio for more than 50 years with my daughters. In 1984, I demonstrated bonsai art in Bristol in Great Britain. Bonsai is miniaturized potted plants and trees for aesthetic appreciation and it's an art form unique to Japan. The pine tree is cited as typical, but all sorts of other plants and trees are nurtured.
