What you'll do
Switch Off Your Head. Start Writing Instead. My workshops teach you how to switch off the chatter in your head. I teach you ways to write from the deep places in your body, from your heart, soul and gut. You learn to ignore your inner critic, stop editing yourself as you write and instead channel the experiences you had, through your whole body and heart out onto paper. The days of highly intellectualised literature are gone. These days, the most popular fictions are often the self published women and men from working class backgrounds with tales of raw humanity, compassion and survival, told with wry wit and deep love. One of the ways to get to your secret store of fantastical tales of what life threw at you, is to breathe deep into your belly, while relaxing your thoughts. It takes practice. In order to free-flow the heartfelt moments we now call ‘writer’s gold’, we create a safe sacred space with sage, candles and maybe even some dragon’s blood for protection. Finding the still place where all the magical creativity lies requires a little dedication. The sweet spot is all the feelings you danced and wailed to as you grew into you, all the imaginary worlds you wished to visit instead of the office desk, the traffic, the kids, the debt. It all starts with breath, and switching off your head. I have two spare rooms, for those wishing to enjoy a few days one-to-one tuition

I am embarking on my MA in Creative Writing at the University of Stirling. I won the Scottish Book Trust New Writer's Award. I was funded and supported and mentored by HI-Arts and Emergents. My debut novel is called The January Flower. After a ten year apprenticeship learning the art of creative writing, which involved studying with the finest authors, poets and professors in Scotland, then winning awards, publishing my first novel and studying English Literature, while writing my second and third novels, I began teaching a short creative writing I course I devised myself. This workshop has been incredibly popular with women and men of all ages all over Scotland. From Forres Culture Day to Ness Book Fest and the Scottish Mental Health Arts Festival, my students still say my workshops are inspirational and revolutionary. I love to teach.
