What we’ll do

Get ready to get hands on! I'll show you the basics of analog camera operation & loading, as well as a brief history of celluloid cinema. We'll spend some time learning cinematography fundamentals before heading outside and exposing 50 feet of Tri-X (black & white) Super 8 film around downtown Portland. Wear clothes you don't mind splashing chemistry on (can leave small bleach spots) and are weather-appropriate. Bring your own snacks & bottle for water. Be ready to get creative!

What I’ll provide

Equipment
Camera, film, chemistry Canon & Minolta Super 8 cameras, (1) roll of Tri-X Kodak Super 8 film, photo processing chemistry & facilities.

What to bring

Weather-appropriate clothes (ex: rain jacket and shoes for rain, SPF and hat for sun), snacks and water bottle.

Where you'll be

We'll conduct our workshop at the Northwest Film Center for use of their darkroom and classroom spaces. We'll be filming outside in downtown Portland, capturing iconic locations like the Portland marquee, the Park Blocks, Portland State University campus or downtown Portland.
