What you'll do

Adventure conservation Tourism: canoe and hike
Your journey starts with a paddle across the dam. On a stable indian kayak, with a paddle in hand and a life jacket donned, an experienced paddler will guide you across the dam where you can view the reserve from a different perspective. Wildlife is often seen from this vantage point and our resident fish eagle are always seen sitting on their favourite branch. Giraffe sightings are another highlight. Disembarking from the kayak and completing a wild walk completes this experience. Being on foot and walking in the reserve is especially exciting.

The duration of the experience varies between 2 to 4 hours depending on where the wildlife is and on the level of fitness of the group.
Other things to note
During summer (Dec-Feb) is hot and humid with thunderstorms late in the afternoon. Winter months are warm and pleasant.

Wonderful day out, we thoroughly enjoyed our paddle and game walk to the giraffe and zebra. Sihle and Freedom were very informative on the local fauna and flora and interesting to chat to. Would definitely do it again!

Wonderful experience, bongani and Freedom were our hosts. I can honestly say we made new friends. They know the plants and their uses in both Zulu and english. Definitely a great experience.

It was a beautiful experience. The dam is a tucked away gem full of different animal lifestyle. Unfortunately we didn’t manage to track the giraffes

Sara was a great host she was friendly and caring , she had three people with her who also helped us with Canoeing and walking through the wilderness spotting few animals. Overall it was a unique experience to canoe across a dam and walk on foot to find some animals . Definitely recommend for urbanites.

Let the locals take you out for a wilderness trek - stop and listen to what they’re studying about the land and it’s inhabitants. Be the audience this land needs so it doesn’t go unnoticed!
