What you'll do

We call it MAKE IT, TIP IT, SIP IT! The theme of the workshops vary based on the season and which local partner we are showcasing alongside our event. In the workshop, guests learn to create ceramic vessels that complement the drink being served. For example, mugs for coffee roasted locally, or pints for locally brewed beer. When guests arrive, they have some time to settle in, enjoy lite snacks, select a one-of-a-kind vessel to keep and sip out of while getting acquainted with the studio. Eventually each person will take a seat at our community table and participate in a hands-on activity we call "Clay Play". (A fun & interactive introduction to clay, tools and techniques needed for the workshop). After a short break and more sippin', a step by step demonstration will show the hand-building process and how to incorporate different surface treatments onto the form. The remaining time will be used to design and create vessels, listen to music, snack and sip until clean up. Included in the workshop is a vessel to take home, and if a guest becomes attached to their completed work, Spark can fire, glaze and ship the vessel for an extra fee.

Where you'll be

Yosemite Place Studio is in Bayview, an authentic San Francisco neighborhood close to the airport, highways and public transportation. The building is an old mattress factory that feels historical and special. It's a unique aspect of the area and one of the few large studio buildings with this type of charm. In the building, bathrooms are plentiful, clean and easy to access. There's also an outdoor courtyard where folks can take a break or eat.
