What you'll do

This private & personal tour ( no more than 8 people) will begin at a local grocery store to sample some of the best poke and spam Musubi in the world. Whenever we travel we always look for the local grocery stores because that's where you will find the best foods. Then head to Kalihi for a Manapua tasting and taro factory. We then sit for a authentic Hawaiian food lunch and learn the history and how it's made. For the finale we head to an old school bakery or shave Ice store.

Lanai took us on a wonderful and tasty tour of unique Hawaiian local delicacies. I cannot stress enough how much food you'll be able to try on this experience, and all of it will be delicious and unique. So many cool stops and Lanai explained at each one of them the history of Hawaiian cuisine, his story, and the origin or uniqueness of the food we were eating. All in all, I highly recommend this experience!

Our tour with Lanai was amazing! You feel like you’re walking around town with a celebrity! His knowledge of food is incredible and you can really tell that he has a passion for what he does. Food is his life! Come hungry. And I echo what others have said - do this tour as early as possible because Lanai has tons of recommendations!

Awesome experience! If you like food at all, I highly recommend this. I did this experience on my own, and still had a great time. Lanai is an awesome guide who will take you way off the beaten path. I would have never been able to find any of the spots on my own, and the food was authentic, unique and delicious. It’s just a fun time all around. Do it!

First of all, it is really a lot of food. You just have to be able to eat . Learned a lot of Hawaii food creations. The Hawaii lunch is a feast. I simply wish I have four stomachs like the camel. Lanai is really warm and friendly. And you can say goodbye to all the fake touristy food in Waikiki and dive into the real Hawaii food paradise.

I was delighted to attend LānaʻI’s local culinary experience. I would first like to start off by saying I really appreciated how thoughtful and authentic our host was and is. I can see that Lānaʻi has a lot of pride for his motherland. His passion for food shines through as he explains his background and history revolving around the very ingredients that sparked his passion in the first place. Regarding the food, I wanted to highlight just a few. I have never tasted such fresh poké in my life! I am from California where poké bowl shops can be found at every turn—no comparison. Visiting a taro chip factory ran by a personal friend really showcased the dedication of current generations to maintain tradition among contemporary faire. We also visited another local hot spot (I wont say the name because you should book the experience :)) and found that poi can mix well with just about everything on the plate. The pipikaula mixed with poi was my absolute favorite. I was delighted to try manapua made from a recipe derived from those of Chinese and Hawaiian descent. As for dessert, ube in the form of cheesecake/custard style bites was icing on the cake. I traveled solo but was happy to have met a wonderful family (and little Thùy) who made this food experience even more worthwhile. Thank you LānaʻI for showing us a piece of your heart through this local culinary experience.

Our family loves foodie experiences. We have done many food tours in the past, and this one was excellent. Lanai was welcoming, professional, well informed, and enjoyable to be with for several hours. The places we visited on the food tour were exceptional. We appreciated the local food/culture, historical context, and fantastic food options. We also had fun, which was the best part of all. Thank you for a great tour!
