What you'll do

Chiang Mai is a fascinating city at all times of the day. I'm going to show you the best of it at night. The cycling fun starts just after sunset, as we ride through local parks, majestic temples, and famous night markets but we'll take the back roads to get there.

The well-lit neighborhoods and temples will be a perfect opportunity for some great photography. We'll learn about the history and significance of everything we see while taking breaks from riding.

We pass charming neighborhoods and temples, winding our way to the river and to the evening fresh markets. First, we visit the food market and then the flower market.

We leave the Eastern Gate (Tha Pae) of the old city and enjoy a little more time exploring the city by bike before calling it a night.

Hi, I'm Noom (we Thais have long names so we need a nickname).

Having grown up in Chiang Mai and working as a guide for over 10 years, I know the ins and outs of Chiang Mai. The back roads of the city are my playground and I want you to come explore them with me by bike because that is the best way to experience the city.

If I'm not available, my friends Sert or Dum who are also guides will take you around. Sert enjoys Thai history, so he loves to grab his bike for traveling to many ancient places. Dum is a very friendly guy who always makes people around him smile. Makes him a great host.

Where you'll be

We will mostly be cycling inside the old town of Chiang Mai, which you will get to see from a different perspective. For example, it's one thing seeing temples during the day, but an entirely different experience at night. We will also visit a fresh market filled with exotic fruits, locally grown vegetables and freshly made food, which we will get to sample.

I wound up skipping this trip after arriving at the meeting place, despite knowing I wouldn't be refunded. I'd asked Sakda a bunch of questions in advance about safety and was repeatedly reassured. When I arrived, a negative, pissed off Win met me saying I was late. (I knew I was the only one on the tour and arrived at 6:03 for a 6:00 start time.) He said that the company sometimes tells people to show up early for setup. But no one told me to be there early and I wasn't in the mood to be chastised by grumpy gus prior to a "group" trip alone with him. Then, he stuck a pen in my hand and told me to "sign here." I decided to read the contract and was a bit stunned. Unlike every other adventure travel contract I'd ever signed, this one claimed they had no responsibility for anything no matter what. It was ridiculous. They managed to make the experience sound so unsafe and Win behaved in such an unwelcoming way, that I just got up and left. Also, since they have no other customers, you'd think they'd treat me well, but Win behaved the exact opposite. I did message Sakda but he didn't bother to respond, so I guess this is a windfall for him – he charged full price and provided no services. Nice.

A great immersion in thai night culture! We went to temples, ate street food, visited the night markets, and ate local fruits. Sakda was very careful and he is very knowledgeable!!

I was a bit worried in advance about riding bikes in Thai city streets (drivers are really crazy, and I'm an older guy), but our guide chose safe routes and this tour through the city night was a real blast! Wat Chedi Luang, the women's prison massage training facility, the wholesale produce market (YEAH!) Do this! You won't regret it.

Great way to introduce yourself to Chiang Mai. Sakda provided many tips on the area. I recommend you do this when you first arrive to familiarize yourself with what the city has to offer.

Wonderful tour! Pond and Josh were phenomenal, friendly and paid a great attention to our safety. We visited sights, markets and tried some interesting small bites we may have not done ourselves. Definitely recommend. Thank you!

Enjoyable experience if new or not well known in Chiang Mai. Would recommend to do this at the start of your Chiang Mai trip, as you get some good tips about where to go and what to see. I've been to Chiang Mai many times before, so most of what we did I already knew, but still liked the ride. Having said that, the bikes are good, the guide is friendly and you get to see a few interesting places. I do think the price is slightly higher than it should be, especially considering the overall level of prices in Chiang Mai. Having said that, it was an enjoyable experience and I would recommend it.
