What you'll do

Make a typical Brazilian style high-flying Kite

We will begin at the recreation center. I will give you a little background history of myself as well as the history of kite flying in my native Brazil. I will explain step-by-step how we will create your kite. I use bamboo for the kite frame. Depending on your skill level, we will either cut the bamboo stalks or I will have them semi-prepared. You get to choose your kite color from the paper assortment I supply.

As a native Brazilian, I am an avid kite flyer. For over 20 years, I have participated in various local kite flying competitions throughout Rio de Janeiro. I began making my own kites as child. As an adult, I still have the same amount of passion for not just flying my kites, but making them as well.

We were unable to attend this fun event. We heard right back from Monet & Cris after we had to cancel. Maybe next time while in DC.

Wow!!! What a pleasant surprise....who knew my 10 year old would love making Brazilian Kites. I have to be honest, I was a bit nervous that he wouldn’t participate and be engaged. He was greeted with a big smile and such an amazing energy that my son will definitely be attending a second time 😊!! What a great experience & not to mention the kite colors are so vibrant & has survived my rough son 😊 playing with it!! Thanks so much for offering this wonderful workshop - I will surely spread the word!

Had a wonderful time at the Brazilian kite making experience! My daughter absolutely loved it!! The host was so pleasant & patient with my daughter. The kite was beautiful...not to mention it was so awesome to see it fly in the sky. Some of the community children had so much fun watching as well. It was so great seeing my teen daughter engaged & away from her phone! Had a blast!
