What you'll do
When you arrive at Greenbank Farm, high on a hill in the Cartmel Valley with the most stunning views, we will introduce you to each of the horses in the paddock outside the farmhouse then show you around the yard enclosed by historical Grade II listed stone barns. We will then take you up to the stables that are restricted and not open to the general public. You will meet our stunning Friesian horses in the stables, ones getting ready for work and in the turnout areas. If possible, you will get to stroke their beautiful silky black noses and and spend time chatting to them. We do have a rogue Shetland pony called JB who won't want to miss out on all the attention! The team member showing you around will tell you a little about each horse and if you're lucky you may get to see one or two being schooled in the outdoor arena. If you are up to it, a wander down the road to one of our fields where we keep most of the horses in a herd will be on the agenda - bring wellies! The Meet the Horses tour is 40-60 minutes

Greenbank Farm where I live specialises in these beautiful black beauty horses with their long flowing manes and tails and their uniquely people orientated personalities. The first Friesian horses came over from Holland 15yrs ago to be trained in carriage driving. There are now 14 Friesians on the farm ranging in age from 2yrs to 18yrs old. The farm is one of the most knowledgeable authorities on the breed in this country. Myself and my co-host Kit, at Black Horses & The Friesian Experience in Cartmel, South Lake District National Park love to share knowledge of each individual horse, it's unique characteristics and show visitors how kind, gentle and special the Friesian horses are. The farm also provides a home-for-life for retired and abandoned Friesians.
