Experience Protection Insurance

In the rare event someone gets hurt or their property is damaged during a covered experience, hosts may be protected with up to $1,000,000 USD liability insurance.

This program applies to hosts of experiences, except in mainlaind China and Japan. It doesn't apply to hosts of accommodations.

What's covered?

Experience Protection Insurance may cover:

  • Your legal responsibility for bodily injury to guests or others
  • Your legal responsibility for damage to property belonging to guests or others

Experience Protection Insurance doesn't cover:

  • Bodily injury or property damage resulting from something done intentionally (not an accident)
  • Damage, loss, or theft to a host’s personal property
  • Experiences involving aircrafts or certain types of extreme activities (like bungee jumping and heli-skiing)

Experience Protection Insurance may cover hosts during the experience and also while they are preparing an area for the experience, before it begins or after it ends, subject to policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.

Coverage for co-hosts

Co-hosts that provide related services in connection with an experience may also be covered under Experience Protection Insurance, subject to policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.

The claim process

1. Intake form is completed

A host, guest, or third party completes and submits the Insurance Program Intake Form.

2. The insurer appoints an adjuster, who then reviews the claim

After the intake form is completed, an adjuster on behalf of the insurance company will get in touch to discuss the claim and gather information.

3. The claim is investigated by the assigned adjuster

The third-party claims adjuster settles the claim in accordance with the terms of the Host Protection Insurance policy and applicable laws and regulations in the applicable jurisdiction.

Do I need to do anything to be insured under Experience Protection Insurance?

No. When you become an experience host and agree to the Airbnb Terms of Service, you also agree to be covered under Experience Protection Insurance for occurrences during Airbnb experiences. Note that Experience Protection Insurance is subject to policy terms, conditions, and exclusions.

If you would like to opt-out of the Experience Protection insurance program, you must do the following:

  • Email us from the email address associated with your experience host account
  • Include your full name and phone number associated with your experience host account
  • Include the exact title of your hosted experience

Please note the opt-out email address will not be monitored other than to process opt-out requests.

Does Experience Protection Insurance apply to online experiences?

Hosts of online experiences may be covered by Experience Protection Insurance in the rare event a guest is injured or their property damaged during one of these interactive video sessions and the host is legally responsible. Experience Protection Insurance doesn’t cover hosts online-related risks such as defamation, or theft of electronic data or infringement of intellectual property rights.
